Legal status and management

Because of its wide range and higher numbers, Eurasian lynx is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN red list of Threatened species.

However, some populations in Europe are considered as endangered because of the small numbers of individuals and their geographic isolation. Lynx are considered endangered species in Slovenia and therefore protected by the international and national regulations. Those importantly shape lynx management in the country.

Slovenia and Croatia main lynx population management goal is to establish a viable population and ensure its long term conservation in the Dinarics, including its habitat and to ensure coexistence. Lynx management falls under jurisdiction of Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection, Directorate for Protection of Nature in Croatia while in Slovenia it is under the jurisdiction of Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.
