Bear tracks
Five toes with claws are usually visible. It is possible to estimate the size of a bear by the size of their tracks – bigger bears have larger paws and leave larger tracks. Old rear paw tracks can sometimes be mistaken for human tracks.
Scats
Most bear scats have a diameter of 4-7 cm, they usually brake up into segments as they are disposed and may show blunt, broken ends and can form a pile. The scat varies quite dramatically based on what the bear is eating at a particular time of year.
Rubbing trees
Bears sometimes use trees as some kind of a message board. They usually choose big coniferous trees near paths or feeding grounds. They bite, scrape or rub against them. They leave their hairs and personal smell on them in order to let other bears know they are present in the area.
